SimplySmarter met with the Lawson Learning Operations team to learn more about the new Lawson Learning Management System. Four enthusiastic individuals took turns (and interrupted each other) in answering our questions.
SimplySmarter: What is the Learning Operations team, and what do you do?
Adam Palmer (Manager of Lawson Learning Operations): It’s quite focused, we’re facilitators. We support every Lawson Learning activity, that is, all training on Lawson products for customers, business partners, and employees. Our courses provide the know-how these groups need to be able to implement and use Lawson applications and technology products.
SimplySmarter: How do you do that?
Adam: With the Lawson Learning Management System. It is how our customers access all our courses. And we are
implementing a new version this fall.
SimplySmarter: So what do you like best about the new Lawson Learning Management System?
Jeremy Ward (Lawson Learning Registrar): I think the best thing about it is the easy navigation and drill-down capabilities. Customers can quickly find the courses they’re interested in and that give them the most value.
Victoria Helseth (Lawson Learning Market Manager – Americas) The new Lawson Learning Management System gives us better visibility into which courses our customers choose most often, and which locations they are drawn to. This helps us plan, so we can put more resources toward what our customers need.
Adam: And Lawson Learning Management System means that we can give customers a complete learning solution with unique features, such as custom News Pages where you can see guidelines and learning news just for your organization.
SimplySmarter: Can you tell us what customers will notice most about the new Lawson Learning Management System?
Denise Peterson (Senior Operations Specialist): Well, first of all, the clean interface will shock them – in a good way! The new look puts information at their fingertips. In fact, right on the first page they’ll find a customized view of their training activities.
Jeremy And the search function is improved. You can use wild cards and you don’t even need to enter full search terms.
Adam: Yes, it will be easier for customers to find training, because of the new and simpler navigation functionality.
SimplySmarter: So what have you kept from the old version?
Adam: One thing that won’t change is our customers’ user ID and password. This stays the same as their current active support.lawson.com signon. And all their training history will still be there if they have a single ID. However, if someone has multiple IDs the history will be stored in more than one location.
SimplySmarter: Will it be hard to learn the new Lawson Learning Management System?
Jennifer Damsgaard (Operations Specialist): Well, there is some new functionality and new screens to navigate. But each time a user uses the system, they’ll learn a little more. We’ll supply online simulations using the Lawson Learning Accelerator to guide new users, and we’re ready with phone support and training just so you’ll keep moving forward in learning the system.
Denise: Throughout the launch we plan to stay in touch with all current Learning customers. And we’ll provide links to training and online tours in SimplySmarter.
SimplySmarter: OK, so when will the new Lawson Learning Management System be launched?
Victoria: Go live is October 22 for the Lawson M3 and Lawson S3 product lines in the Americas. Then we’ll begin to plan our rollout to other regions around the world.
SimplySmarter: This all sounds great! Can customers purchase the new management system to use with courses they develop in-house?
Denise Peterson: Actually Lawson Learning Management System is not a software product and we don’t sell it. It’s really an application called SumTotal that we have purchased. It helps us deliver, schedule, and track just the courses that Lawson Learning has developed and published for our customers.
