A Comprehensive Look at Lawson Procurement

What is the best way for me to prepare my Procurement Project Team for implementation?

Send your team to the Lawson Procurement Workshop, a training session that covers all the procurement modules and demonstrates how they work together.

Details about the Procurement Workshop may seem like a well-kept secret, but actually it's just that the full story about this valuable training opportunity isn't widely known. So we're spreading the word.

What it includes
A couple of years ago Lawson Learning added the Procurement Workshop to the Lawson S3 product line public schedule. Designed as an eight-day course spread over two weeks, the workshop integrates all the procurement application classes into one blended learning experience. Taught by veteran Lawson instructor Pam Schultz, the Procurement Workshop includes the four base modules:

    • Inventory Control
    • Requisitions
    • Purchasing
    • Invoice Matching

“The beauty of this class,” explains Pam “is that you get the full picture. The procurement process is tightly integrated, with all applications sharing much of the same information. We designed this learning experience to help customers see the connections between procurement activities and experience first-hand how all of the processes work together.”

“It's good to see the big picture and understand how everything works together. I never realized how much setup decisions affect transactions, not only in my area, but in other procurement areas as well.”

Workshop structure
During the first week of class the focus is on setting up the base modules; the second week covers transactions.Information is presented in an ordered flow, with concepts introduced sequentially, building upon each other. “It's exactly how a person would naturally approach the process,” Pam says.

Customers usually have to take four separate classes – and potentially make four separate trips – to accomplish the same training. “When you take the classes individually, you don't get a comprehensive view,” continues Pam. “You're not aware of how your ‘item setup' may affect users ‘requesting items,' or how costs get updated when an invoice is matched. Also, if you take the courses out of sequence, you may find the natural flow interrupted.”

Who it's for
The workshop is especially valuable for new implementation project teams, but is suitable for any one who supports procurement applications. “Even though you might have a team member who only handles the purchasing side, and another who focuses on inventory, it's extremely valuable for all of them to see the full integration,” Pam suggests. “For an implementation to be successful, team members need to know how their decisions affect other areas.”

Pam Schultz has been with Lawson for seven years working in the procurement area. Prior to coming to Lawson she worked as a business office manager where she gained end-user experience. Later she worked in software implementation, primarily on the healthcare side. “As a trainer who comes from the end-user side of things, my goal is to help make people's jobs easier,” says Pam. “I like to know that I've given them the information they need to make educated choices and come up with the best decision for their organization.”

The Procurement Workshop is held at Lawson corporate headquarters in St. Paul once each quarter. The next workshop will begin on January 29, 2008. Call 1-888-449-8931 or send an e-mail to lawsonlearning@lawson.com to register or get more information.
