vLab Highlights

Put on your pajamas
and get Lawson Smart.

Did you know that vLabs are not included in the Online Learning Library? Sure, they’re delivered online just like our Interactive Webcasts and OnDemand courses — which means you can wear anything you want to class — but vLabs are different. They offer a more intensive, hands-on learning experience with real-time system access, breakout discussion sessions, and one-on-one interaction with instructors. So, put on something comfortable, and take a vLab course this fall.

Tips and Hints

Q: My company purchased an annual subscription to the Online Learning Library (OLL), but when we access the registration system, a course fee is included. Can you explain?

A. The Lawson Learning Management System always includes a price when you register for OLL courses. However, if your company purchased the Online Learning Library Annual Service, you won’t be billed again. The benefit of getting an annual subscription to the OLL is that you pay one price for the entire year, and you can choose from over 300 Interactive Webcasts and OnDemand courses.

If you’re not sure whether your company purchased the OLL Annual Service, or if you’d like to learn more, call us at 1-888-449-8931. We’ll let you know your subscription status, and send you a PDF catalog listing all courses currently available in the Online Learning Library.

If you have a hint to share — or would like a tip to help solve a problem — click here to let us know. We’ll send you an answer and consider featuring your question in a future issue.

Next Steps for Lawson Learning Accelerator
Since Lawson Learning Accelerator was launched almost two years ago, more than 100 customers have purchased the technology solution. Three organizations — Oldcastle, Carpentersville Schools, and Owensboro Medical Health Systems — expressed their satisfaction through video testimonials. During this time Lawson Learning worked closely with The Breakaway Group, which created pre-built simulation libraries for S3 and helped deliver the training and custom services on many of our customer projects.

The Breakaway Group has particular expertise in serving healthcare organizations and is considered one of the fastest-growing healthcare consulting firms in the United States. The company’s research-based methodology allows end-users to achieve proficiency dramatically faster than with traditional learning methods.

As we head into 2009, we’re expanding our partnership with The Breakaway Group to offer more content, more services capacity, and more sales support. Plans include building out a complete set of Lawson S3 System simulation libraries, and increasing sales and delivery opportunities. Karl Reynolds recently joined Lawson Learning to drive this initiative, as well as our other Online Learning Solutions.

Meet Kevin Leighton – the “Go-To Guy”

Kevin LeightonKevin Leighton, the newest Learning Consultant on the Americas Delivery team, became a trainer almost by accident. After studying Electrical Engineering at the University of Minnesota, and working as an applications developer for a mortgage company, Kevin joined IBM. He worked as an iSeries developer, but later left IBM to become an IBM business partner, managing everything from sales engineering to consulting, installation, and migration.

“When I became an IBM business partner in ‘94, the people in the organization turned to me and said, ‘Okay, get ready. You’re going to be a trainer,’” recalls Kevin. Surprised and a bit terrified by the prospect, he said ‘You’re kidding, right?’ But they weren’t kidding. Kevin turned out to be a natural and continued delivering first class training sessions for IBM during the next 13 years.

Kevin joined Lawson as a Technical Business Consultant for iSeries in April 2007, but his training expertise soon surfaced. “I was on everybody’s radar,” Kevin remarks. “A guy who will teach.” He moved into his new role as a Lawson Learning Consultant this summer, teaching technical foundation and system administration for Windows and iSeries platforms, and security administration.

With solidly grounded technical skills, Kevin’s personality and teaching ability shine in the classroom. The high standards he learned at IBM are evident in his approach to training. “Every type of person with every kind of learning ability, background, and knowledge register for my classes,” says Kevin. My goal as a trainer is to make sure that everybody in the class gets what they need — and then some.”

Kevin enjoys learning about new technologies, and he shares his enthusiasm with everyone in the class. “What I like most about training is being the go-to guy. Being able to come up with the answers — not necessarily right on the spot — but helping people solve problems.” Kevin accomplishes this feat with the humor and polish it takes to make learning new technologies a breeze. You can reach Kevin at kevin.leighton@lawson.com.
