Meet Kevin Leighton – the “Go-To Guy”
“When I became an IBM business partner in ‘94, the people in the organization turned to me and said, ‘Okay, get ready. You’re going to be a trainer,’” recalls Kevin. Surprised and a bit terrified by the prospect, he said ‘You’re kidding, right?’ But they weren’t kidding. Kevin turned out to be a natural and continued delivering first class training sessions for IBM during the next 13 years. Kevin joined Lawson as a Technical Business Consultant for iSeries in April 2007, but his training expertise soon surfaced. “I was on everybody’s radar,” Kevin remarks. “A guy who will teach.” He moved into his new role as a Lawson Learning Consultant this summer, teaching technical foundation and system administration for Windows and iSeries platforms, and security administration. With solidly grounded technical skills, Kevin’s personality and teaching ability shine in the classroom. The high standards he learned at IBM are evident in his approach to training. “Every type of person with every kind of learning ability, background, and knowledge register for my classes,” says Kevin. My goal as a trainer is to make sure that everybody in the class gets what they need — and then some.” Kevin enjoys learning about new technologies, and he shares his enthusiasm with everyone in the class. “What I like most about training is being the go-to guy. Being able to come up with the answers — not necessarily right on the spot — but helping people solve problems.” Kevin accomplishes this feat with the humor and polish it takes to make learning new technologies a breeze. You can reach Kevin at kevin.leighton@lawson.com.
