Tips and Hints

Q: Why do I get a message saying “registration blocked” when I try to launch an OnDemand course that I’ve already accessed before?

A: If you receive a “registration blocked” message, it means you have already registered and paid for the course in question. It also means you launched the course and indicated you were finished when exiting.

Once you have registered for an OnDemand course through the Lawson Learning Management System (LLMS), you can take that course as many times as you wish — even if you selected the “completed training” option when exiting the course. There’s no need to sign up again. You will have access to these courses for 12 months from the date you first registered.

You can access the course through your “Active Training List” under “Current Registrations” on the Lawson Learning home page, or by navigating to your “Completed Registrations” list and launching it from there.

To access OnDemand courses you have completed, follow the steps below. Also, see the attached PDF file with screen shots for more detail.

  1. Select the “More” link from the home page of the LLMS. You must have at least one current registration for this link to appear.
  2. The ‘More’ link will take you to your “Training Schedule” page where you can view and manage active and past training.
  3. Use the “View” drop-down box on the right hand side of the page to go to “Completed Registrations.” You will be able to view all the OnDemand courses you have completed and start them again whenever you would like. No additional charges will apply.

If you still have questions or need more detail, send an e-mail to Lawson Learning at lawsonlearning@lawson.com.

Power Training Wrap-up

Talk about success! We had twice as many customers sign up for Power Training at CUE this year, and an overwhelming majority (89%) gave their session rave reviews. We offered 12 different courses, and it’s obvious by the numbers that these short, intensive training sessions have great appeal. We hope you take advantage of this excellent learning opportunity next spring. In the meantime, stay tuned for news about two Power Training courses we plan to offer as part of our regular schedule in the coming months.

A Change for the Better: Lawson Security Administration, 9.0

We recently renamed three of our virtual learning labs to make it easier for customers to find the content they need. The Lawson Security Administration, 9.0 vLabs (for Human Capital Management, Enterprise Financial Management, and Supply Chain Management) are now called: Lawson Security, 9.0, Advanced Rule Writing for Enterprise Financial Management; Lawson Security, 9.0, Advanced Rule Writing for Human Capital Management; and Lawson Security, 9.0, Advanced Rule Writing for Supply Chain Management. The content remains the same. Check out the vLab schedule for full course descriptions.

Lawson Learning Accelerator Spells Success for Illinois School District

Lawson Learning recently completed video profiles of two Lawson Learning Accelerator customers that had their debut at CUE 2008. This article spotlights our conversation with several staff members from the Community Unit School District 300 in Carpentersville, Illinois. Watch the video.

The Carpentersville School District, located in the far northwest suburbs of Chicago, serves a diverse population living in 15 villages and cities spread across three counties. When the district began searching for a new educational software solution to improve information quality and reduce administrative costs, a nationwide bid produced Lawson. “When we launched three years ago, we immediately found that training was wonderful,” says Dr. Cheryl Crates, chief financial officer.

But, after adding two schools in one year — and dealing with new staff and shifting roles — retraining issues started to surface. To address the training needs of over 2,500 staff members and 20,000 students, the district looked for a product that would handle both knowledge and skills learning.

“We reviewed a variety of products and chose Lawson Learning Accelerator for many reasons,” explains Chief Technology Officer Eric Willard. “One is that it comes from a lineage of quality. It's technologically sound. It fits our infrastructure, and what we're trying to do technically.”

Due to its size, the district faces constant retraining issues. “That’s where Learning Accelerator came in,” says Dr. Crates. “It allowed us to train with online screen captures and develop modules for each of our basic areas of oversight, including HR, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and purchasing.”

Ross King, systems analyst for the district, says “One of the nice things about Learning Accelerator is that it allows people to go through training programs whenever they want from their desks. Plus, it’s an excellent product because it works with any system,” he says. “You don't have to have Lawson. You can use it with a student system or your finance system — however you choose.”

“Learning Accelerator is a Lawson add-on product, but it isn't a Lawson-only product,” adds Dr. Crates. “The functionality of Learning Accelerator is going to start first with our business office products with Lawson. But then it can blossom out to our student and teacher training for their software as well.”

The district is looking forward to a long partnership with Lawson as the company continues to maintain, enhance, and develop Learning Accelerator. “You not only need the product, but you need the company behind it,” says Eric Willard. “We do know that change is a constant. And as technology changes, with a company like Lawson behind Learning Accelerator, the product will continue to change to meet our needs.”
