Albert Einstein Healthcare Network for Operational Excellence
The Albert Einstein Healthcare Network (Einstein) needed to find a partner to help with multiple initiatives designed to automate administrative functions, improve employee compliance, drive efficiencies throughout the organization and create sustainable cost reductions.
In September, 2007, Einstein went live with Lawson Human Resources Management Suite, Employee Self-Service, Manager Self-Service, Process Flow Integrator, Lawson Business Intelligence, Design Studio, MS-Addins, and Financial Management Suite. Just two months later, they did their first benefits annual enrollment using Lawson solutions. And in the three years since implementation, they have seen many improvements including streamlined administrative processes, improved controls and compliance, expense savings and overall employee satisfaction.
With employee data at the fingertips of caregiver’s, time spent chasing paper throughout the organization has reduced dramatically, allowing more time for patient care, improving overall employee satisfaction and helping employees feel more empowered with the information they need to succeed.
Bon Secours Health Systems Inc. for Integration Excellence
Bon Secours Health Systems Inc. (BSHSI) needed a solution that would unify their disparate financial, procurement, human resources, benefits and payroll process while helping reduce costs through process improvement. They found Lawson and implemented Lawson General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Inventory Control, Requisitions, Human Resources Management, Benefits and Payroll solutions. All were new implementations with four major upgrades over the past ten years.
The multi-year implementations consolidated, centralized, and standardized the BSHSI chart of accounts, inventory masters, vendor masters, procurement contracts, employee records, employee benefits, and payroll. The result is Lawson became the primary single source of record for each of these key areas and integration to downstream systems became critical.
“One of Bon Secours primary directives is to promote and demonstrate right relationships. Cultivating this type of relationship with Lawson as a business partner and more specifically with our Lawson customer advisor Brian Walker over the last 10 years has enabled BSHSI to achieve dramatic savings through process redesign and refinement.” Scot Thornton, Director ERP Applications and Support
Indiana University Health for Growth & Expansion Excellence
Motivated by the desire to become the first healthcare network to fully embrace Accountable Care, Indiana University Health (IU Health) was looking for way to bring transparency, accountability, efficiencies, and cost reduction to it supply chain operations. They found Lawson and implemented Lawson Mobile Supply Chain Management (MSCM) application to bring transparency, accountability, efficiencies and cost reduction to their supply chain operations.
In IU Health’s quest for preeminence and the move to Accountable Care, their departments are leveraging Lawson to reduce overall costs, including:
- A productivity increase of 50%
- Labor cost saving of 25%
- $228,520.37 in labor cost will be saved over 5 years
- $213,490.50 will be saved over 5 years by not having to use UPS TrackPad
- $442,010.87 in total savings over 5 years
- Saving 10 minutes per dispatch call
“Lawson MSCM has changed the way that we do business at IU Health. MSCM has freed us from pen and paper, from behind the desk to in front of the customer. It has brought transparency, accountability, efficiencies, and cost reduction.” David Krol, Systems Coordinator | Supply Chain Operations
Liberty Healthcare Management for Clinical Excellence
Liberty Healthcare Management (Liberty) was in search of a solution that would give them the ability to have one cohesive product line that would encompass multiple areas of the company from human resources to facilities to payroll. The driving factor behind this was a belief that this level of cohesion would greatly assist with reducing costs such as overtime and needlessly scheduled employees for more than 20 long-term care and assisted living facilities, as well as management offices, and homecare and hospice divisions. They chose Lawson, and in 2010, implemented Lawson Workforce Management solutions.
The major goals and objectives when starting the project included a reduction in overtime, the ability to easily run various reports directly from one system and allowing staff access to their scheduling and payroll information. In less than one year, facilities is reporting a 2% reduction in overtime.
In the future, Liberty expects Lawson products to help reduce not only overtime costs, but mailing costs by no longer needing to overnight pay stubs and general staffing costs. The system allows management to more closely monitor real-time facility expenses even when they are not on site, and allows Liberty to "push" information and statistics directly to those who need it, rather than expecting them to "pull" it from various reports.
New Hanover Regional Medical Center for Financial Excellence
When looking at the landscape of Enterprise Resource Management (ERP) solutions for the healthcare industry, it was clear to New Hanover Regional Medical Center (NHRMC) that there was an overwhelming consensus of who would best meet their needs, it was Lawson.
Using a foundation of the full suite of Lawson Financial applications, NHRMC procured the services of Lawson partners to engage in electronic vendor payments with American Express, invoice imaging and workflow with ImageNow, and electronic payroll vouchers and W2s with MHC Software’s document express.
NHRMC set specific goals for the organization, and the Lawson suite of products delivered. To date, they have seen:
- Manual invoice processing reduced 75%
- Electronic payment reward of approximately $500,000
- Achieved $20,000/year cost savings with electronic PR vouchers and W2s
The achievements have helped the hospital refrain from layoffs and avoid increases in insurance payments for years. Also, the reduction in overhead expenses has allowed NHRMC to keep better staffed and invest more capital in patient care.
“We depend on Lawson to not only evolve with a changing healthcare environment; we expect it to be flexible enough to be able to integrate with best-in-breed software partners. To date, not only has Lawson’s core functionality provided us with the tools that we need to succeed financially, it is also a worthy platform on which we can add additional applications to meet our immediate needs. A dollar that’s not going toward processing payments, paychecks, or invoices is a dollar going towards improving our patient care.” Scott Bliss, Financial Systems Analyst
